Those of you who read between the lines did indeed read correctly. Following the retirement of Music Week's quite legendary chart summariser Alan Jones, I have been invited to take over his role. It means from this point on I will be writing the official chart analysis pieces in the pages of the music industry's official trade magazine. You can read my own tribute to Alan and his life's work here.
The Chart Watch UK website will remain online, home to the legacy archives as well as being my own personal home on the web. But if you want to carry on reading the weekly summaries of the UK charts, then you can do so either on the Music Week website or in the printed copies that appear in the shops every Monday. For the moment these commentaries require a subscription to read and so are sat behind the paywall on their website. Music Week do however encourage you to take a trial, and you can sign up and read for free for four weeks by clicking this link.
Thank you to everyone who has loyally read these pages over the years. Rest assured you can expect the same level of enthusiastic detail and explanation of some of the odder chart moves. This is the job I've waited over 25 years to do, and I'm looking forward to it enormously.
